About Me
Clive Swan is a highly talented cocktail pianist with an extensive music, television and theatre background
Clive trained as a musician at the London College of Music and spent most of his career in television production, working mainly on Entertainment shows and children’s programmes with BBC Television.
He has worked on numerous musical shows with many well-known artists including Petula Clark, Val Doonican, Olivia Newton John, Lulu and the Two Ronnies. Situation comedies including Porridge, The Good Life, Are You Being Served and Rings on their Fingers are all part of Clive’s resume.
He was a member of the team that created the first BBC1 Saturday morning show for children, Multi-Coloured Swap Shop with Noel Edmonds. He then moved on to Thames Television and worked as a Senior Programme Manager on the ITV London regional news programme, Thames News.
Since Thames Television lost their franchise in 1992, Clive started to spread his wings and focus on new opportunities to provide a wide range of musical services. These include his work as a cocktail and wedding pianist, repertoire work with actors preparing for auditions and musical theatre performances.
As a Musical Director, his work covers a wide range of productions, including musicals and professional pantomime seasons, as well as numerous amateur theatre shows.
Clive runs his own theatre company, Night People Productions, which has been performing in venues through the UK since 1983 with their own special blend of compilation shows, featuring the music of Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin, Kander & Ebb, Noel Coward and Cole Porter to name but a few. Night People will shortly be embarking on a new production, Romantic Notions, a varied and stylised collection of songs about love in all its formats!
Clive has been playing cocktail piano music at Sopwell House Hotel in St Albans for several years now and can be heard playing there every weekend as their resident pianist.
